A lesson barn books horses, not conference rooms
Seshana is scheduling software for riding instructors and lesson barns. The rider, the horse, and the instructor have to be free at the same time. A generic calendar only checks one of those.
The horse cannot be in two rings at 4pm
Barns bleed time on the same three problems: a school horse assigned twice, a half-lease that no one wrote on the whiteboard, and a parent who swears they signed the waiver in March (they did not).
Group lessons, privates, and trail hacks are not interchangeable. If your booking tool treats them as '60-minute appointments,' you will put a beginner on a horse that already did two camps that morning.
Paper charts work until the weekend desk is a teenager and the regular manager is at a show. Then nobody knows who is on who.

Treat horses as equipment on the lesson. Instructors carry availability. Customers keep history so a returning rider is not a stranger every spring.

Check a school horse out against the session. You see what is already spoken for instead of finding out in the tack room.
Lesson types that match how you actually teach
Walk-trot groups, privates, trail, and camp blocks can be separate types with their own length and who may instruct them.
Waivers before they mount
Send them with the booking. Know who is unsigned before the 4pm rush, not when they are in the ring.
Parents and returning customers
Keep contact info, notes, and lesson history on the customer. You should not re-ask 'have they cantered' every September.
Questions owners actually ask
- Can I assign a specific horse to a rider?
- You attach gear — including horses — to the lesson. That is how you keep two groups from claiming the same school horse. Standing 'this kid always rides this horse' is still a note you write; the schedule enforces the conflict for that hour.
- We are a one-instructor barn. Is this too much?
- The solo plan exists for that. You still get the calendar, customers, waivers, and widget. You skip the team features until you hire.
- Does this handle boarding and training bills?
- No. It is lesson operations: schedule, people, waivers, horses on lessons. Keep boarding accounts where they already live.
- What about weather and the outdoor ring?
- Locations can carry weather. If you move indoor because of storms, you change the lesson on the board and notify. It will not decide footing for you.
